Prosthesis Repairs

Restore your prosthesis—quickly, effectively, and with peace of mind

A cracked, broken, or unstable prosthesis should never be ignored. Even minor damage can affect your comfort, chewing ability, and overall oral health. At Clinique de Denturologie Talbot, we offer fast, on-site prosthesis repair services in our in-house lab. We understand how essential your prosthesis is to your daily life—that’s why we do everything we can to restore its full functionality without unnecessary delays.

When Should You Repair a Prosthesis?

Some issues require immediate repair, while others—though they may seem minor—can signal deeper problems. Common cases include:

  • A cracked or broken acrylic base
  • A detached or missing tooth
  • A prosthesis split in half
  • Unusual wear on prosthetic teeth
  • Loose or unstable prosthesis
  • Pain or sores caused by the prosthesis

Important: Never attempt to fix a prosthesis yourself using over-the-counter glues—these products may be toxic, worsen the damage, or make professional repair impossible.

Fast, Local Service with Our On-Site Laboratory

One of the key advantages of our clinic is our in-house dental laboratory, which allows us to:

  • Diagnose the issue on-site, without third parties
  • Repair your prosthesis as quickly as possible
  • Ensure strict quality control at every stage
  • Adapt the repair to your unique mouth and preferences

No need to send your prosthesis to an external lab or wait several days without it—we assess the damage, explain the timeline and cost, and get to work immediately.

Types of Repairs Offered

We handle all types of repairs for removable prosthesis:

Base Fracture Repair

For cracked or broken prosthesis bases, we apply professional-grade acrylic resin with reinforcement to restore original strength.

Tooth Replacement

Lost a prosthetic tooth? We replace it with one that matches in color, shape, and size—restoring both appearance and function.

Attachment Repairs (Clips, Clasps, Bars)

For partial or implant-supported prosthesis, we repair or replace mechanical components that ensure proper retention.

Specific Repairs for Partial Prosthesis

Partial prosthesiss—whether they use metal clasps or implant attachments—require special care when damaged. Repairs may include:

  • Replacing or reinforcing clasps
  • Welding base fractures without affecting natural teeth
  • Realigning rests to avoid imbalance

Thanks to our expertise and in-house lab, we perform these procedures efficiently while preserving prosthesis stability and the integrity of your natural teeth.

Too Damaged to Repair?

In some cases, repair may be temporary or technically unfeasible. If the prosthesis is very old, porous, or weakened, a complete replacement may be more appropriate.
Rest assured—we’ll walk you through every option, associated cost, and can even recreate your current prosthesis identically if you were satisfied with its design.

You remain in control of the final decision.

Repair or Replace? How to Decide

It’s not always easy to know whether to repair or replace. Key criteria include:

  • Frequency of repairs: Multiple fixes in a year suggest general wear and tear
  • Age of the prosthesis: Over 7–10 years old? It may be deformed or uncomfortable
  • Base stability: A warped base may impair chewing, even after repair

We rigorously assess your prosthesis and recommend the most durable and cost-effective solution long term.

Repair or Adjustment?

Sometimes what seems like a repair is actually an adjustment issue:

  • The prosthesis is loose, but not broken
  • Your gums have changed shape over time
  • The bite (occlusion) no longer aligns correctly

We may suggest a relining or targeted adjustment to restore your prosthesis’s original fit.

Relining: What to Know

Over time, gum tissue and jawbone naturally shift, causing misfit even if the prosthesis is intact. Relining involves adding new resin to the prosthesis’s inner base to match your current mouth shape.
This allows:

  • Restored stability for full or partial prosthesis
  • Extended lifespan of the prosthesis
  • Reduced risk of pressure sores

Relines are often completed quickly at our on-site lab—no need for a new prosthesis.

Preventive Care: Avoid Costly Repairs

Proper maintenance helps avoid unnecessary repairs. Here are a few simple but effective tips:

  • Never sleep with your full or partial prosthesis
  • Clean it daily with a non-abrasive product
  • Avoid hot water that could warp the base
  • Schedule an annual check-up—even without symptoms

Regular follow-up helps detect microcracks, early instability, or wear before major repairs are needed.

Our clinic offers services recognized under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
